Citrus County, Northwest Florida

The Water Lovers Florida on Natures Coast

Citrus County is located just north of Tampa and northwest of Orlando.  Citrus County is the heart of Floridas Nature Coast.  You won't find traffic build-up, tourist traps or unaffordable luxuries - just winding roads in beautiful countryside leading to the waters edge; whether it be a fresh water spring, stunning lake or meandering river.

There are 4 main towns in Citrus County and we have villa plots for sale in all locations.

Manatees in the crystal clear river

Crystal River

The City of Crystal River hugs the western shore and is a working waterfront community located on Kings Bay, designated as an 'Outstanding Florida Waterway'. Crystal River (a 6 mile long winding waterway fed by 30 springs) is one of the best places to observe the endangered West Indian manatee.

Downtown Crystal River maintains its old-town charm, including a small business commercial hub. The City of Crystal River has all the resources of any town in the USA, including excellent schools, convenient shopping, great restaurants serving local seafood and produce and more. There is even an excellent airport suitable for private aircraft which is located just outside the main business area.

Homosassa River

Homosassa

The town of Homosassa retains its historic old fishing village ambiance.  Its main attractions are the West Indian Manatees who enjoy the 72 degree water in Homosassa River (a 9 mile waterway flowing through to the Gulf of Mexico), and the 45 ft. deep Homosassa Spring.

There are 2 'Homosassas' - Homosassa Springs, which is a developed area along Highway 19, and Homosassa which is a village along the banks of the river.  A public school and library in the town serve a growing population of permanent residents.

Inverness Courthouse

Inverness

The City of Inverness is the largest town in Citrus County and continues to grow.  It has been the County Seat of Government for more than 120 years.  It is a community with a strong interest to respect its history and environment.  Through the years it has become a haven for those seeking a simpler and safe lifestyle to raise their family.

The City has become a cyclers paradise.  There are 46 miles of paved recreational trail with easy access to downtown and bike lanes on the main roads.  Walking and jogging trails, tennis, racquetball, basketball and athletic fields are amongst a variety of pastimes here.

Floral City

Floral City is located 7 miles east of Inverness and is named for the wild flowers that grow throughout the area.

There was a time when Floral City was the largest community in Florida when phosphate mining was the most important local industry; then came the surge of economic activity when Spanish Moss was recognised and once processed was used for stuffing upholstery and car seats.
